Ven.Khensur Rinpoche's NEWS & Chabshu Holiday

We, the monks of Sera Jey Ngari Khangtsen ( Education Society ) are happy to inform to all friends and visitors to our website that Ven.Khensur Rinpoche Jampa Thegchok, the abbot Emeritus of Sera Jey Monastery University, was appointed resident lama at Istituto Lama Tzong Khapa and teacher of the Masters Program!

Construction works in progress:

Here we go... the pictures here are recently captured on the constructions site, as you see the Upper Block is nearing completion, with railing and floor of the veranda is painted red. We expect to finish works in the coming a few months, however it may take more months as the crop harvesting season for the local Indian workers and laborers is approaching fast, besides our limited resources and funds for the projects are another reasons too. The 10 meters depth Septic Tank has been dug in the very front of hostel veranda, and the waste water-passage and pit have been dug behind it. The Construction Executive and the wielding man are taking the measurement between the pillars of the hostel for the railings in the Lower 2nd Block. The new railing will come up shortly.

Even before the summer break, the student worked so hard cleaning the dirt stained on the window grill and the railings with sand papers even in the heavy rain. They also dug up the waste water drainage whole day to save the constructions cost. Our Thanks goes to our students for their cooperation and collective efforts in any way in all-round development of Ngari Khangtsen.

Summer Break or Chapshu in Khangtsen:

The ‘Chabshug’ or pronounce Chapshu is a week long summer break in the monastery after a long period of Yarney or summer retreat. The entire monastics strictly observed the retreats for a month and a half in the monastery. Even during the holiday, many great Geshe and senior monks remain in the retreat centre doing prayer, visualization of root guru and deities, accumulation of mandala and prostrations as strict dharma practitioners. The younger monks spend the summer holiday by playing games like carom board, table tennis and enjoying education related movies their own Khangtsen .

As before, this time we got together in the Khangtsen compound, prepared food and meals together, shared joy together in the genuine spirit of brotherhood and dharma friends. As you see in the pictures, our monks playing free rubber and table tennis in the Khangtsen debating courtyard in great joy, laughter and entertainments. The senior monks and the children being lined up for the ‘Final Day Feast’ which is a pure vegetable meals, nutritional contents with fruits and soft refreshments. Our kitchen In-charges worked tirelessly in the best interest of our children and Khangtsen over the whole summer holiday cooking foods and meals so tasty and delicious. The children too helped them in turn. It was one of the most memorable and enjoyable events for all that we made the best used of this short holiday……

Khangtsen News from May to July

It is regretted that it may caused inconvenience to many of our friends who regularly visit our website, which we were not in a position to provide you the constructions progress news updates on time. It is because of the hectic schedules of our Chief Administrator;Geshe Ngawang Zangpo who had participated in the programme in New Delhi; 50 years of His Hoiliness The Dalai Lama in India “A tribute Of Gratitude” from the people of Himalayans regions on the occasion of 74th Birth day of H H the 14th Dalai Lama on July 6th 2009. His presence in India has contributed and gifted immensely in the field of education, Buddhist cultures and the preservation and promotion of Buddha Dharma, promotion of strong cultural and friendly relationship amongst people of Himalayan regions for the last half a century of His Exile .

The senior monks of Ngari, headed by Ven Geshe Ngawang Sangye one of our principal dharma teacher, our chief administrators and managements Geshe Ngawang Zangpo and Gen Tashi and the other senior monks held intensive deliberations and brainstorm on our future course of actions on various important Khangtsen’s issues such as fund-raising for the ongoing construction mission, management of newcomers & students’ disciplines, all-round education and character developments, new rules and overall managements of the Khangtsen itself for the further preservation of Tibetan Buddhist Cultural Heritage in particular .

On the auspicious anniversary of Shakyamuni Budhha’s First Teachings or Choekor Duechen in Tibetan, which falls on 4th day of the 6th month of Tibetan Calendar, a new Disciplinarian and two Mess managements were appointed with a simple ceremony of Puja in Khangtsen’s Prayer Hall in order to have success in every spiritual and secular activities of the society.

One part of our hostel constructions mission is nearing completion as you see in the pictures with new railings on the veranda, yet lots of remaining works to be carried out such as white-washing, painting the window and railings, electrical and pipes works, making of bookshelves and cupboards etc. The Administrators along with the two other construction supervisors do fantastic jobs every day even in the face of continuous torrential rain and bright scorching sun. Owing to the constraint of resources and unpredictable rain and several other reasons, it seems it will likely to take some more time to complete our long cherished and much awaited mission. So far, we have made a good progress in the journey of our building project over the last a few months with the funds or resources contributed we received from our Dharma friends, well-wishers and generous donor. However, we have many many miles to cross and many hurdle to overcome for the betterments of our younger generations or monks from Tibet and far off Himalyans regions. Like a drops of water that make an ocean, we received financial assistances, moral supports from various sources for the Hostel Project either organizations or individuals who always stand by us. To them we owe our debt of gratitude and heartfelt thanks

Over the weekend, the students are loading the tractor with bricks for the constructions. They are also cleaning up the Khangtsen’s premise and surroundings for the upcoming one and a half months summer retreat or (Yarney in Tibetan) in the monastery itself. Since it is a rainy season, as rules laid down in Vinaya by Buddha Shakyamuni, monks should observe the summer retreat strictly and are not permitted to move around beyond the demarcated area. The principal idea of the observance of summer retreat is to avoid unknowingly killing insects and worms that breed in the green grass in large number…..
